Earn a free Hyatt night without having a Hyatt card

When you have a Chase World of Hyatt personal credit card, you earn a free Category 1-4 award night every year on your card anniversary when you keep the card open. This is a great benefit because you can easily redeem these free nights for a stay at a property where rooms go for $200+ per night, and the annual fee on the card is only $95. And I love this free-night benefit.

But you can also earn a free award night without even holding a Hyatt card! Miles-and-points fans refer to this method as “Hyatt bingo,” but the official name of the promotion is called Hyatt Brand Explorer. The Hyatt Brand Explorer promotion grants World of Hyatt members a free award night when they stay at five different Hyatt brands. For each five property types, you earn a free night. And the stays don’t have to be paid for with cash, either—award stays count, too.

Here you can see where I am in my Hyatt Bingo status—I’ve stayed at six different Hyatt brands, so I’ve earned one free night already, and I have one night at a new brand (plain old Hyatt) to apply to my second set of five brands, to earn a second free night.

When you earn your free night, it’s good at any Category 1-4 Hyatt property, and it expires a year after you earn it, meaning you need to complete your free “bingo” stay within that one year (not that you have to book it within that one year).

It’s free to become a World of Hyatt member; you simply sign up for a World of Hyatt account on the Hyatt website.

If you’re not a World of Hyatt member already, this is something that will take you about a minute to set up, and then you can completely forget about it and be surprised with a free night one day, after you’ve stayed at five different Hyatt brands.

Pro tip: It’s also helpful to think strategically about whether you or your travel partner (“Player 2”) should book any Hyatt nights you might use together, so you can see whose Hyatt Bingo might be helped along the most by a stay. For example, if you already have a stay at a Hyatt Place but your Player 2 doesn’t, book your next Hyatt Place stay together in Player 2’s name so Player 2 can earn that brand for their bingo card.
